To all individual members, business members,
and future members of Ouray Ice Park, Inc. :
This past winter we:
- Restored the historic powderhouse structure located at the ice park low bridge. Our ice makers now have a dry place to make repairs to pipes, valves, etc.
- Opened up the new Kids and Beginners area with 12 WI 2 Climbs. The new area is dedicated to Sue Nott, Karen McNeil, and aspiring mountaineers of all ages!
- Finished construction of our new office located at the entrance to the Upper Gorge.
- Built the Nott/Mcneil Memorial structure.
- Finished construction of an amazing new viewing stand at the Ice Park Low Bridge.
In the Summer of 2009 we will:
- Begin piping and plumbing in the new "GOT STUMP" area that is just across the gorge from the 5 fingers area.
- Build a new trail into this area.
- We are still working on the land swap with the USFS, City of Ouray, and County of Ouray. Things are progressing nicely.
- Implement new rules and regulations concerning usage of the ice park by large groups (schools, clubs, etc.)
As you know, our Board of Directors works for the Ouray County Commissioners. OIPI organizes volunteer work efforts at the Park, raises the funds required to keep the Park free and open to the public, and keep the Park safe for everyone to enjoy. Liability issues do not allow an admission fee to be charged. As such, the Park is funded through the Ouray Ice Festival, individual memberships, and business memberships. Prior to your visit to the Ice Festival, or Ouray, voluntarily purchase a individual membership for $40.00 and take a look at our sponsors page. If you are a visiting Ouray, kindly stay, dine, and shop at the businesses that help keep the park open.
Rules and Regulations - The Ice Park Board is committed to keeping regulation to a minimum. However, we are responsible for Park safety, and want your climbing experience to be a good one. Therefore, we adopted rules and regulations limiting commercial guide services and large groups. If you are a climber, please take the time to review the rules and regulations handouts that are available throughout town, and encourage everyone to comply. If you are a group, or commercial user, please contact us prior to your visit to Ouray, to discuss the regulations currently in effect.
Thanks again.
