Ice Park Etiquette

Some of these are Ice Park rules and some are just things you should do and be aware of.

  1. Buy a membership, support your park.
  2. Leave gear on an anchor if you are leading a route so that nobody will rappel onto you.
  3. Use the walk downs to get to the base of the route if there is anyone around. This way you will not knock ice down onto them. There have been many accidents caused by this.
  4. Yell real loud before you throw ropes into the gorge, or better yet get a visual that nobody is on your route. It is very difficult to hear people in the gorge from above.
  5. Do not take gear off of a route. If there are quick drawsleft on a route, then someone is projecting that route. Quick drawsleft on bolts is not abandoned gear and should be left in place. They may be there for a competition as well.
  6. Be aware of people climbing above you if you are climbing or at the base of a route. Ice can fall a long way.
  7. Learn how to belay from the top of a route. Belay off the anchor rather than your harness.
  8. Crampons and helmets are required in the gorge.
  9. Don't take your dog into the gorge.
